St. Johns Lutheran Church has a group, called the Voter’s Assembly, whose members vote on significant issues and changes to the church. They are guided by the Constitution and By-Laws of this church and are the only ones who may vote to modify them.

Members of the Voter’s Assembly must first be “Communicant Members” of the congregation then they are voted to be Members of the Voter’s Assembly by this body.

There are 6 Boards that report to the Voter’s Assembly when it meets, during certain months. These Boards also report to the Executive Council (which consists of a representative from each Board, the Officers, and the Pastor) during the months when the Voter’s Assembly doesn’t meet. Annually, this council elects/appoints the Members of each Board and may act on behalf of the Voter’s Assembly, subject to subsequent confirmation by the Voter’s Assembly.

There are Officers whose duties are specified in the By-Laws and are elected by the Voter’s Assembly. Besides their other duties,  they help with the orderly processes of the Voter’s Assembly and the Executive Council. They are as follows:

· President (presides over the Voter’s Assembly)

· Vice-President (presides over the Executive Council)

· Treasurer

· Payroll Treasurer (assists the Treasurer)

· Special Funds Treasurer (assists the Treasurer)

· Financial Secretary (assists the Treasurer)

· Secretary

· Member-at-Large (there are 2 of them)

Special Voter’s Assembly meetings may be called by the President, the Executive Council, or by a written petition from 10/more Members of the Voter’s Assembly.

Per the By-Laws, there’s an annual General Assembly, for which the “Communicant Members” of the entire congregation are invited, to meet and discuss anything related to the congregation. There is no voting in this meeting, but, items may be submitted for follow-up by the Voter’s Assembly or the Executive Council.
